Bullet Proof Bras

The new underwear was developed as a second barrier of defence after normal bras were found to cause injuries while on duty.
The officers' bullet-proof vests, while stopping the force of gunshots in an attack, pushed the plastic and metal parts of their underwear into their flesh, causing injury.
Carmen Kibat, a policewoman in Hamburg who tested the new underwear, said: "These can save someone's life so it's not a laughing matter." She organised "Action Brassiere" across Germany, getting hundreds of policewomen to try the bras out in the line of duty.
They are all emblazoned with the word "police" and made from cotton, polyester, elastic and some other synthetic materials, thickly padded and with no metal or plastic studs or fasteners.
Three thousand front-line women police officers will now be required to wear the bras on duty. Their bosses have decided to allow them to have three each.
Ruediger Carstens, a spokeswoman for the police, said: "This was pioneering work. The safety of our officers is paramount."

Morgan Freeman's Crash

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman was hospitalized in serious condition Monday after the car he was driving left a rural road in the Mississippi Delta and flipped several times.

Freeman, 71, was airlifted to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn., about 90 miles north of the accident in rural Tallahatchie County.

The actor "has a broken arm, broken elbow and minor shoulder damage, but is in good spirits," according to a statement from Donna Lee, Freeman's publicist. A hospital spokeswoman said Freeman was in serious condition but would not discuss his injuries.

"He is having a little bit of surgery this afternoon or tomorrow to help correct the damage," Lee's statement said. "He says he'll be OK and is looking forward to a full recovery."

Freeman, who won an Oscar for his role in "Million Dollar Baby," is among the stars in "The Dark Knight," now in theaters. His screen credits also include "Driving Miss Daisy."

Freeman and a companion were traveling on a dark, two-lane highway that cuts through the expansive farmlands of the Mississippi Delta when the car ran off the side of the road shortly before midnight Sunday, authorities said. The vehicle flipped several times but landed upright in a ditch alongside Mississippi Highway 32, about 5 miles west of Charleston, not far from where Freeman owns a home with his wife.

Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Ben Williams said rescuers had to use the jaws of life to remove Freeman from the car.

"He was lucid, conscious. He was talking, joking with some of the rescue workers at one point," said Clay McFerrin, editor of Sun Sentinel in Charleston, who arrived at the scene soon after the accident happened.

McFerrin said it appeared Freeman's car was airborne when it left the highway.

Bystanders converged on the accident scene trying to get a glimpse of the actor, McFerrin said.

When one person tried to snap a photo with a cell phone camera, Freeman joked, "no freebies, no freebies," McFerrin said.

Williams said Freeman was driving a 1997 Nissan Maxima that belonged to Demaris Meyer of Memphis.

"There's no indication that either alcohol or drugs were involved," Williams said. He said both Freeman and Meyer were wearing seat belts. The woman's condition was not immediately available.

Freeman was born in Memphis, Tenn., but spent much of his childhood in the Mississippi Delta. He is a co-owner of the Ground Zero Blues Club in Clarksdale.

"I'm definitely concerned," country singer and fellow Mississippian Steve Azar, whose video for his hit "Waitin' on Joe" featured Freeman, said Monday. The two have also worked charity events together. "He's been the best ambassador our state has ever had."

"He could live anywhere in the world and he came back home," Azar said. "I just think it shows a lot about him as a person and how grounded he is."

The hospital where Freeman is being treated is commonly known as The Med, and is an acute-care teaching facility that serves patients within 150 miles of Memphis

The birth, at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend, Oregon, was natural, according to a source, who added that reports that Beatie had had a Caesarean section are false.

"She's really cute, really pretty,'' the source told ABC News Thursday afternoon.

The source said Beattie was resting and the family was focusing its attention on the new baby.

Born a woman, Beatie, 34, who had had his breasts surgically removed and legally changed his gender from female to male, leaped to prominence around the world in April when the wispy bearded man revealed he was pregnant.

Despite years of taking hormones and living outwardly as a man, Beatie maintained that he retained his female sex organs because he intended one day to get pregnant.

Toni Braxton Hospitalized For Chest Pain!

Toni Braxton was hospitalized in Las Vegas Monday night after suffering from chest pains, reports People.com.

The 40-year-old singer has been performing her five-day-a-week show “Toni Braxton: Revealed” at the Flamingo hotel since 2005. She was listed in good condition as of press time Tuesday and expected to be released sometime in the afternoon.

“We wish Toni a quick recovery and would like her to take the time she needs to regain optimal health,” said president of Flamingo Las Vegas, Don Marrandino. “We are looking forward to her return at the end of the week.”

Braxton took Tuesday night off, and was not scheduled to perform Sunday or Monday night in her show.

The singer suffers from the heart condition pericarditis, an inflammation of the sac surrounding the heart. This year, Braxton became a spokesperson for the American Heart Association.

Mariah Carey Engaged To Rapper Nick Cannon?

The ‘Touch My Body’ singer was sporting the impressive rock at the after-party for her new film ‘Tennessee’ at New York’s Tenjune nightclub on Saturday night (26.04.08), where she held hands with the actor-and-singer.

An onlooker said: “Mariah and Nick looked really cosy. They were cuddling and made sure they held hands all night. Mariah looked really proud to there with Nick, and he seemed to be having a great time.”

However, Nick – who, at 27, is 12 years younger than Mariah – refused to comment on any possible engagement, and would only say the 38-year-old singer is “a great person”.

He added to MTV: “I can’t even know what to say. She’s probably the most festive, remarkable person I’ve ever met. She is a good friend. But rumours happen.”

Mariah – who split from her record executive husband Tommy Mottola in 1997 – was rumoured to be dating Mark Sudack, a member of her management team, before she was first seen out with Nick in Las Vegas on April 15.

Lindsay Lohan Turns Gay?

Lindsay Lohan responded Friday to her recent outing by Los Angeles Police Chief William Bratton. Earlier this week, Bratton said “Lindsay Lohan has gone gay.”

Spotted by paparazzi at Los Angeles Airport while boarding a flight to Chicago, 22-year-old Lohan and galpal Samantha Ronson were asked how she felt about being outed by Bratton. Ronson kept quiet but Lindsay responded saying, “Police, you shouldn’t get involved in everyone else’s business when it comes to their personal life. It’s inappropriate.”

A video of Lohan’s comments shot by the paparazzi was posted on TMZ.com.

Bratton’s remarks about Lindsay were made earlier in the week in discussion of a proposal before the LA City Council to regulate paparazzi. He said “there are currently on the books sufficient laws, rules and regulations” and blamed celebrities for much of the trouble.

“Since Britney started wearing clothes and behaving; Paris is out of town not bothering anybody anymore, thank God, and evidently, Lindsay Lohan has gone gay, we don’t seem to have much of an issue,” Bratton reportedly told KNBC-TV

Angelina Jolie Expecting Twin Babies!

Angelina Jolie has checked into a hospital in the south of France where she is expected to give birth to her twins, a hospital spokesman said Tuesday.

Nadine Bauer, press attache for the Lenval Hospital in Nice, said Jolie is fine and that everything is going well. She said Jolie’s admittance to the maternity wing had been planned for some time.

Bauer said the 33-year-old actress will almost certainly remain in the hospital until she gives birth. She said Jolie was admitted so she could be kept under normal surveillance — and is not expected to give birth immediately.

Bauer said Jolie was admitted recently but wouldn’t say exactly when. “There’s no urgency. It’s been planned for a long time,” she said. “She’s very well. Everything is fine.”
Jolie has said the babies are due in August. She and partner Brad Pitt have four children: Maddox, 6; Pax, 4; Zahara, 3; and Shiloh, 2.

The Brangelina clan has been settling into a new home in the south of France. They recently moved into the Miraval Estate villa in the French hamlet of Correns, in the Provence region.

Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens: Lookin’ Cute at TCAs

They were the picture perfect couple at last night’s 2008 Teen Choice Awards. And Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens stayed close together all night long.

And though they didn’t show too much PDA, an insider told FOX Pop Tarts’ Hollie McKay that things are all good. “They’re still together. But they don’t want to promote their relationship on camera.”
